These NVQs are work-based qualifications that assess the skills and knowledge people in your job need to perform their job role effectively. They are motor industry qualifications that cover activities relating to Body Maintenance Technicians for passenger carrying vehicles.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a broad working knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in garages and maintenance depots.
The qualification to NVQ Level 2 includes the following areas:
• Vehicle servicing
• Identification, location and rectification of body damage on vehicle body components
The qualification to NVQ Level 3 includes the following areas:
• Carrying out scheduled body maintenance
• Assessing body damage
• Repairing body damage on vehicle body components
• Setting out and assembling vehicle body components or parts
Other skills that may be required for these qualifications include:
• Identification, location and rectification of electrical faults
• Identification, location and rectification of mechanical faults
• The routine assembly of vehicle body components or parts
• Preparation and treatment of surfaces and application of paint coats to body panels and components
• Roadside assistance for broken down vehicles
• Driving vehicles for testing and vehicle recovery
• Thermal joining
• Vehicle inspection
With both qualifications, you will demonstrate your skills and knowledge by collecting evidence of your work. This evidence is usually presented in a portfolio (however your approved centre may use an alternative method). Your assessor will advise you on how to generate, collect and present your evidence. You will also undertake IMI set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice tests.
