Do you like large vehicles such as trucks?
Would you like practical work?
Do you have good problem solving skills?

Why not pursue a career as a heavy vehicle technician? As a heavy vehicle technician you will be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of lorries and other heavy commercial vehicles.
Your main tasks will include:

• Undertaking routine servicing / maintenance
• Detecting worn vehicle components
• Repairing / replacing faulty parts
• Testing vehicle components
• Using test instruments to check the vehicles

To become a commercial vehicle technician, you might be well advised to do an apprenticeship, where you would gain technical certificates designed to give you the knowledge and skill you need and an NVQ/SVQ in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is available at levels 2 and 3 to prove your occupational competence. In addition you will also get your Key/Core Skills.

Some heavy vehicle technicians carry out MOT-tests as a part of their job. To do this, you have to be a qualified MOT Tester.
