Policy and Representation
Representation of our members' views is central to the work of Greater Manchester Chamber. Members have the opportunity to debate and influence Government policy and other issues of local, regional, national and international importance. The research section of the policy team acts as a focal point for the survey and economic policy work of the Chamber.
A number of surveys are conducted among members, including the Quarterly Economic Survey (QES). A full report is produced which appears in the Chamber magazine. The report can help businesses by putting their activities into the context of general economic conditions. The QES has proved influential and successful in the Chamber's lobbying activities, as well as with key decision-makers, including the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee and the Treasury. It is also widely reported in the media.
The results not only help to shape policy priorities, but also enable the Chamber to improve communication with members. By highlighting areas of interest, the Chamber can invite businesses to attend events on issues pertinent to them, ask them to take part in member ocus groups, and respond to consultations on a wide range of business issues on which they may have a specific expertise.
The team also produce a detailed submission outlining key priorities identified by Chamber members for inclusion in the Chancellor's Pre-Budget and Budget speeches. High profile events and campaigns run by the team to ensure the views of members are heard by Government.
The team is also setting up a range of local and individual activities to get members' voices heard in the current economic climate and support them in running their business in challenging times.
By researching your needs and views the Chamber can help influence the future of the business environment, as well as giving back to members information to help run their business.
