Why not think about pursuing a career as a parts operative? As a parts operative you will be selling a wide range of parts and accessories. Your customers can include the general public, your own service department as well as other garages.
Your main tasks will include:
• Advising customers
• Taking orders from customers
• Locating parts from stock
• Ordering vehicle parts and accessories
• Controlling stock
You will also need to have good IT skills to carry out these tasks.
To become a Vehicle Parts Operative, you might be well advised to do an apprenticeship, where you would gain technical certificates designed to give you the knowledge and skills you need and an NVQ/SVQ in Vehicle Parts is available at levels 2 and 3 to prove your occupational competence. In addition you will also get your Key/Core Skills.
